Mr. Martinez was on vacation in Alberta this week and ran into Old Ridleian Olivia Groff! Mr. Martinez wrote an email to me and said, “what are the chances that you would bump into an OR on a glacier!?” Groff graduated in 2010 and she ran into her former teacher on the Athabaska Glacier at Jasper National park. It’s proof that the Ridley family really is everywhere!
Mr. Martinez is a Science and Spanish teacher, coach and is also Assistant Housemaster of Arthur Bishop East.
Send us your pictures or tell us stories of you doing interesting things or if you have run into someone from the Ridley Family recently. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org and we will share your story on the blog!
In a series of ten videos Admissions Assistant Erin gives tips to newly admitted students to Ridley College. In this video, Erin gets help from Daniella and Elaine who explain why you should always know what’s for dinner?
In two weeks students will be arriving on the Ridley College campus. For many students it will be their first time away from home or their first time attending Ridley, so I decided to ask our summer Admissions Assistant Erin if she could come up with some tips to help new students. Erin attended Ridley for eight years and graduated this year. In a series of ten videos Erin will share her tips for new students. Check out tip #1:
About a week ago, Ridley College was transformed into a movie set with trailers, lighting and cameras all over campus. It was all for the filming of ‘Dead Before Dawn’ – a fast paced adventure comedy that follows a bunch of college kids as they accidentally unleash an evil curse that causes people to kill themselves and turn into Zombie Demons, AKA ZEMONS!!! It’s Canada’s first 3D Feature Film. The film is funded by TELEFILM Canada (The Federal Government Feature Film Program). Emmy winner Christopher Lloyd recently joined the cast that includes Devon Bostick and Martha MacIsaac.
Devon Bostick plays Casper Galloway – you might recognize him from ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ (check out Ridley in the background):
Filming took place in 2CB, the Library, outside of the Iggulden gym and the quad area by Merritt and AB houses.
The film is directed by April Mullen and was written by Tim Doiron and is co-produced by the duo. ‘Dead Before Dawn’ is due out next year. For more information about the film check out their website: http://deadbeforedawnthemovie.com

It’s officially summer time here at Ridley College! The campus has cleared out and it’s very quiet after an exciting weekend. 145 students walked across the stage to receive their diploma on Saturday in the Field house. Prize giving, a rousing valedictorian address by Gianni B and a graduation dinner were some of the highlights from Saturday. Some students have been at Ridley for eight months, others eight years, but they have all taken something away from their time here.
This weekend Ridley held two Prize Day ceremonies. Friday evening the Lower School students graduated from Grade 8 and special prizes were awarded to Lower School students. It was much more than an evening to award prizes, it was a time to reflect as graduations often are and the valedictorian address by Ashleigh S. did just that. The grade 8 students have formed a strong bond throughout the school year with each other and their teachers. There is no doubt that they will carry the memories from Lower School with them as they move on to Upper School whether it be at Ridley or another high school in Canada or beyond. Check out the valedictorian address, it’s a good mixture of humour and sentimentality:
Before Prize Day, there was a dinner and dance for the graduates. Take a look at the Hollywood themed event:
