Congratulations to the First Boys Hockey team who won all five games this weekend to claim the Tiger Challenge Cup. Congratulations as well to all teams that travelled to Homecomings at Hillfield and St. Michael’s this weekend where we played spoiler winning 8 and losing 5 program wide including the First Girls Basketball and First Boys Soccer teams whose wins keep them undefeated and in first place in their respective leagues to this point.
First Girls Basketball won 36-25 over Hillfield Strathllan. Emma R. had a game high 15 points, Laura V. had her first triple-double of the season with 10 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds and Alyssa T. added 11 points and 8 rebounds.
Sparked by a brace of goals from senior Captain Matthew S, the First Boys’ Soccer team defeated St.Mchael’s College School of Toronto 2-1. The Tigers were quick out of the traps to start the game as the senior striker raced towards goal to prod home the opening marker in the first minute. Aided by the intelligent field play of his teammates, Sobkowski repeated the feat to start the second half and the visitors were off to the races with a two goal lead. The skillful St.Mike’s team struggled to make a dent in the Ridley defense as twin centre-backs Matthew O and Sinclair K held the Azzurri in check throughout the game. The home side eventually clawed its way into the match with a goal off a corner kick.
The girls 1st Field Hockey Team also played at Hillfield this past Saturday. A very impressive 5-0 win over Hillfield.
