The IB Environmental Systems Year One and the Grade 12 Environment Resource Management students recently took a trip to the Burgoyne Outdoor Centre. Approximately 20 minutes from campus, near Fonthill is 60 acres of beautiful land known as the BOERC or the Burgoyne Outdoor Centre. This area was generously donated to Ridley by the Burgoyne family and is used by Ridley College for outdoor education.
On this field trip, the students followed in the steps of Henry David Thoreau, an American author, poet, philosopher, naturalist and historian, whose major works are sources of modern day environmentalism. Students wrote about what they observed and took nature photos of different scales for their landscape ecology projects.
